Next year, Hyatts will be offering the WATERSHED Program to seventh grade students.  WATERSHED is an alternative integrative curricular program.  The curriculums for IELA, science and social studies will be taught in an integrated manner with a focus on local watershed ecology.  The curriculum is based on the Olentangy seventh grade standards, and is consistent with all of seventh grade.  The activities are centered on hands-on experiential learning that is student driven.  WATERSHED students will spend time completing field studies at various locations on the watershed, have various guest experts and work in a cooperative classroom setting.<br />

<p><strong>Adventure Club</strong><br />
The next Adventure Club activity is this Saturday, March 13. Students should be dropped off in the morning at the front doors of Hyatts by 8:15am.  We will be leaving by 8:30 am for horseback riding and returning by 2 PM.<br />
Remember to bring a packed lunch, wear long pants and closed-toed shoes (tennis shoes or boots) for the ride, and dress for possible chilly weather.<br />
Please do not forget to bring your completed waiver form on Saturday morning!</p>
<p><strong>OAT Tutoring</strong><br />
There will be no OAT tutoring this week due to Terra Nova testing. OAT tutoring next week will be for 6th and 7th grade only.</p>

Softball will have their parent meeting Thursday March 11th at 6:00 pm following practice. The meeting will be in Room 204.</p>
<p><strong>Girls Lacrosse</strong><br />
There will be a girls lax parent meeting on Wednesday, March 10th at 6:00pm.  The meeting will take place in the commons with Coach Bennehoof.</p>
<p><strong>Boys Basketball-6th &amp; 7th Grade</strong><br />
Any 6th or 7th  grade boy interested in 7th grade basketball next school year should plan to meet in Coach Moyer’s room (Rm 231) on Friday during advisory.</p>

<p><strong>Central Ohio Writing Contest Winners:</strong><br />
Congratulations to our middle school students for winning a spot in the Central Ohio Writing Contest!  Students were judged in the categories of non-fiction, fiction and poetry.   All students will be receiving certificates for their contributions and the Olentangy winners will be receiving a copy of Creative Kids magazine. These students will represent Hyatts and go on to compete against other middle schools in the Central Ohio Writing Contest &#8211; and their writing will be judged by Margaret Peterson Haddix.</p>

<p>We will follow an adjusted schedule.  Please make sure students arrive to school on time as we begin testing at 8:00.  We test for approximately 2 hours.  We feel our students are well prepared to show their skills and knowledge and ask that you remind them to get a good night sleep and eat a healthy breakfast (as I am sure you do every day).  </p>

Congratulations to all that participated in Science Fair!  We had 70 students participate this year at Hyatts.  We are very proud of all your hard work!</p>
<p><strong>Seventh Grade WATERSHED Program</strong><br />
Next year, Hyatts will be offering the WATERSHED Program to seventh grade students.  WATERSHED is an alternative integrative curricular program.  The curriculums for IELA, science and social studies will be taught in an integrated manner with a focus on local watershed ecology.  The curriculum is based on the Olentangy seventh grade standards, and is consistent with all of seventh grade.  The activities are centered on hands-on experiential learning that is student driven.  WATERSHED students will spend time completing field studies at various locations on the watershed, have various guest experts and work in a cooperative classroom setting.<br />
Important Dates:<br />
February 23rd and March 4th at 6:00 pm – Parent Informational Meeting in room 230<br />
March 12th – Applications for WATERSHED due<br />

The BOOK FAIR is coming to Hyatts &#8211; March 1st &#8211; 5th<br />
An amazing selection of books is headed our way! At the Book Fair you will find the latest and finest titles for kids and teens as well as books of interest to parents.<br />

<h3>Sports:</h3>
<p><strong>Boys Baseball</strong><br />
Tryout times have been changed for the 7th grade boys baseball team. The tryout times will no be 6pm-8pm (March 8th through March 10th).</p>
<p><strong>Girls Softball</strong><br />
Softball will have their parent meeting Thursday March 11th at 6:00 pm following practice. The meeting will be in Room 204.</p>
<p><strong>Girls Lacrosse</strong><br />
Girls LAX will host their parent meeting on Monday March 1 in the Library from 7-7:30pm immediately following practice.</p>
<p><strong>Boys Lacrosse</strong><br />
Mandatory boys lacrosse practice starts Monday from 4:30-6:30.  All players need to bring stick, gloves and a helmet (helmet will be provided for those who need one). <p><strong>Winter Running Club Fun Run</strong> (2 Miles) &#8211; Saturday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m.<br />
This Saturday, February 27th, the Hyatts, Shanahan, Orange, and Liberty Winter Run Clubs will be hosting a Run/ Walk For Haiti here at Hyatts.  This event is open to the community, so anyone can come and run or walk the two mile course in support of the people of Haiti. There is a $10 entrance fee that will be completely donated to a Relief Fund. There will not be any awards or official results. However there will be a finish clock so that you can get your official time for the 2 miles. The run will start at 10 am and registration starts at 9, with some refreshments to follow the run. We hope to see you there this Saturday! <p><strong>Science Fair</strong><br />
On Thursday, February 25th, Hyatts MS will be holding their annual science fair in the multipurpose room.  Any parent is welcome to come and view the projects from 2-3 on Thursday or on Friday by 2:00.  Good luck to all our Eagle participants!</p>
<p><strong>Band Concert</strong><br />
Thursday Feb. 25th will be the Winter Band Concert. The concert starts at 7:00 p.m., and admission is free! You will be able to see the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands, along with the Hyatts Jazz Band.  Hope to see you there!</p>
<p><strong>OAT Tutoring</strong><br />
Due to Parent/Teacher Conferences this week, OAT tutoring will be on Wednesday and Thursday this week. There will be no tutoring on Tuesday.</p>

This event is open to the community and will be held at Hyatts Middle School.  One Hundred Percent of the $10 dollar entry fee for the 2-Mile Run will be donated to the Haiti Relief Fund through LifeLine Christian Mission and Columbus Running Company.<br />
There will not be any awards or official results.  However, Columbus Running Company will provide a finish clock so you can check your time.<br />
Also, there will not be any pre-registration.  All runners/walkers should register the morning of the event.  The run will start at 10:00 a.m. so arrive early.</p>
