Scheduling Information for Current 6th and 7th Graders for 2012-2013

We will be providing 6th and 7th grade students with 2012-2013 scheduling information next week. We will discuss the scheduling process and course offerings on Tuesday, February 7th with the current 6th graders and on Wednesday, February 8th with the current 7th graders. Attached you will find a 2012-2013 course selection sheet and elective course descriptions for both grades. Please complete/sign the course selection sheet for 6th graders and return to school by Friday, February 10th. The completed and signed course selection sheet for the current 7th graders is due on Monday, February 13th.

Student Fees

Student Fees for the 2011-2012 school year and athletic fees for fall and winter sports have been posted to student accounts. Any unpaid fees will show on the SPS EZPay website. SPS EZPay is updated for any payments every other week. If you have not already paid your student fees, please do so as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please call the Hyatts office at 740/657-5400.

FBI/BCI Background Checks

As part of an ongoing effort to protect and provide the safest environment for the young people we serve, the Olentangy Local School District has recently joined many other districts, such as Worthington and Hilliard. in requiring background checks (BCI and FBI) for all volunteers who will be chaperoning the students on field trips in which they will have the “care and custody” of the children. This became effective January 1, 2012.

For your convenience, the LTES PTO is offering a background check service provided by Celtic Security at Liberty Tree Elementary School located at 6877 Sawmill Parkway in Powell for any Olentangy parents. This service will be made available 1:00 PM to 8PM on Thursday, February 16th. The cost is $51.00. Celtic Security accepts cash, check or credit card for payment. Each participant will need~a valid ID and/or driver’s license, and~social security number. All results will be mailed to the participant from the State of Ohio.

Parents may make hard copies of the results and provide them to their child’s school principal (at the present time, do not digitally send them to the school). Please keep your original for your own records. The background check information is valid for 5 years. Completing the February 16, 2012 background check means your next BCI/FBI background check will need to be completed by February 17, 2017.

All parents planning on chaperoning a field trip will need to have the background check completed and turned in to Mrs. McFarland at Hyatts prior to going on the trip. Scrip Order Date

The next Scrip order will be placed on Monday, February 6th. Please have paper orders into the office by noon on Monday, Feb 6th to be included in this order. Orders can be placed on line anytime up until noon on Monday, Feb 6th. Orders will be available for pick up or to go home with your child on Friday, February 10th.
2% of your order will go toward your child’s Washington DC account. Order forms and more info about the Scrip Program can be found on the Hyatt’s PTO website. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Amanda Latvanas at alatvanas@msn.com or by phone at (614) 798-8009.

Basketball Tournament Update

8th Grade Girls Basketball
Congratulations to the 8th grade girls basketball team on their victory against Hilliard Memorial last night. The girls came back to win in an exciting 4th quarter performance. The girls have moved onto the final four teams of the tournament and will play Worthington McCord on Thursday evening. GOOD LUCK, EAGLES!

7th Grade Boys Basketball
Congratulations to the 7th grade boys basketball team for their 55-44 win against Gahanna East Middle School last night. The team has made it to the FINAL FOUR and will be playing Thursday at 6:00pm against undefeated New Albany Middle School for a place in the Championship game.

8th Grade Scheduling for High School

All Hyatts 8th graders attended a meeting today with the high school that they will attend next year. They received a course selection guide and information on scheduling classes. Please be aware of the following important dates.

January 27th: Class Meeting with 8th grade students about the scheduling process (Students Only)
February 1st: Scheduling meeting for parents of current 8th graders at OLHS @ 7:00 pm
February 8th: Scheduling meeting for parents of current 8th graders at OHS @ 7:00 pm
February 10th: Scheduling of 8th graders at OHMS (Students only)
April 25th: Course request sent home to parents with interims
February-May 1st: Schedule Changes completed by OHMS counselors
May-June 5th: Schedules changes completed by OLHS or OHS counselors
June 5th: Last day to change schedules (must be done by high school counselor)

It is highly recommended that you visit the High School website that you will attend and subscribe to the Listserve to receive email news about announcements, upcoming extracurricular tryout information or auditions, and updates.

Grade Cards

Grade Cards with all first semester grades will be posted in the MyOlentangy portal and available for viewing on January 25th, 2011. Please remember-paper grade cards are no longer sent home with all students. If you need a paper copy, please contact your student’s guidance counselor.

7th Grade Parents – Washington DC Trip Meeting

There will be a meeting for parents of current 7th graders regarding the 8th grade Washington DC trip on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 7:00pm in the Hyatts commons. The trip will be held October 22-Oct 26, 2012. The trip cost will be $740-the same price as Oct. 2011.
