Why we support Race to the Top

In recent weeks, you may have heard news stories regarding Race to the Top. This program is a U.S. Department of Education initiative that provides federal funds to states that are actively engaging in targeted educational reform. In the initial phase of the Race to the Top process, Ohio ranked 10th among those states competing for funds. Phase II of the program is now in process, giving states another opportunity to apply for an award of funds. Ohio is among those states participating in the Phase II process.

Olentangy Local Schools is a Great Value – From one Taxpayer to Another

As I complete my first year at Olentangy Local Schools, I want to reassure our community that this district is committed to providing a high quality education at an efficient price. In my meetings with many in our community, two common sentiments I hear are satisfaction with the educational product that we deliver and a deep concern for rising taxes. As the superintendent, a new resident, a local taxpayer and a parent, I was curious to see for myself just how Olentangy’s tax rates and educational product compared to some of our neighboring school districts. With this information, one has a clear view of both the educational products available to Central Ohio students and also of the cost that is passed on to the taxpayers of these school districts. What I have found is that Olentangy offers a top-level education at a reasonable price.
