Superintendent Updates Community Regarding All-Day Kindergarten

Olentangy Superintendent Wade Lucas, Ed.D. updates the status of all-day kindergarten through his latest blog entry which may be viewed online at http://olentangyschools.net/blog/superintendent/ . In his Message to the Community, Lucas discusses the physical and financial challenges Olentangy will face in order to implement all-day kindergarten and information he received during discussions with State Superintendent Deborah Delisle.

Six Olentangy Students Earn Perfect Scores on Ohio Achievement Tests

Six Olentangy third-grade students earned perfect scores on the fall 2009 Ohio Achievement Test in reading. Only 0.2 percent of the 128,462 students in the state who took this test earned a perfect score.

Bus Driver Named ‘Work Place Hero’ by American Red Cross

The Delaware County chapter of the American Red Cross named Olentangy bus driver Peggy Trimmer a 2009 Work Place Hero. Trimmer is credited with helping rescue two young women who fell into the frozen Olentangy River last winter. When Trimmer noticed the women in need, she stopped her school bus, shouted directions to the women and called for help. Trimmer’s award is sponsored by the Delaware Area Career Center.

Olentangy Earns Recycling Award

The Delaware General Health District presented Olentangy Local Schools with the 2009 Recycling Award during the Keep Delaware County Beautiful annual awards reception. The district earned this award through environmentally friendly projects at several schools including Olentangy Liberty High School (OLHS), Olentangy Hyatts Middle School (OHMS) and Liberty Tree Elementary School (LTES).

WRES Assistant Principal Syroka Chosen to Lead Olentangy’s Newest Elementary School

The Olentangy Board of Education voted on December 8 during their regular meeting to hire Justin Syroka, assistant principal at Wyandot Run Elementary School (WRES), as the principal of Cheshire Elementary School (CES), which will open for the 2010-11 school year.

The Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) recently named Olentangy Treasurer Rebecca Jenkins the Outstanding Treasurer/CFO of the Year and Olentangy Food Service Supervisor Pam Riley the Outstanding Food & Nutrition Director of the Year.
