During the March 16, 2010 Olentangy Board of Education meeting, the board approved the employment of Carla Baker, Olentangy Hyatts Middle School (OHMS) assistant principal, as the Principal of Olentangy Berkshire Middle School (OBMS). While this school will not open until the 2011-12 school year, this position is needed now in order to address the staffing and transition details for the school.
In addition to her preparation duties for OBMS, she will continue to offer support to the administrative team at OHMS. She will also be involved with the overcrowding solution for Olentangy Orange Middle School (OOMS). Once OBMS opens during the 2011-12 school year, Ms. Baker will be relieved of her OHMS responsibilities. The district will review the administrative needs at that time and make a determination as to the OHMS assistant principal position.
“While Ms. Baker will be very busy next school year, I have complete confidence that she will excel in her new position,” said Olentangy Superintendent Wade Lucas, Ed.D. “This creative use of administrative schedules not only accomplishes the preparation needs for OBMS and the necessary student assistance at OOMS, but it is being done at no additional cost to the district. This is yet another example of our administrative team working together in a fiscally efficient manner to benefit students and the community.”
