The Olentangy Board of Education is sending a unified message to the six members of the House-Senate conference committee currently considering the state budget. The letters, signed by all five board members, urge lawmakers to reconsider plans to cut the district’s expected funding by as much as $4.6 million during the 2009-10 school year and an additional $8 million during the 2010-11 school year. The Olentangy Local Schools Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 11 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 4 at 6 p.m. in Conference Rooms A and B of the district’s Administrative Offices, 814 Shanahan Road in Lewis Center.

As Ohio Senators and Representatives work together in conference committee to create a final version of the state budget bill, the Olentangy community has another chance to voice its opposition to the loss of millions of dollars in expected funding.

OLENTANGY HAS LOWEST EXPENDITURE IN CENTRAL OHIO, SECOND LOWEST STATEWIDE OF DISTRICTS ON LIST

Newsweek has once again named Olentangy High School (OHS) and Olentangy Liberty High School (OLHS) two of the top public high schools in America. OHS is ranked 712 with a Challenge Index score of 1.84 and an Equity and Excellence (E/E) percentage of 31; OLHS is ranked 291 with a Challenge Index score of 2.62 and an Equity and Excellence percentage of 48. Olentangy Local Schools will host a full day of professional development with Dylan Wiliam, one of the foremost researchers on formative assessment, on Monday, August 10 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. This event is open to educators from other districts at a cost of $100 per participant, which includes a copy of Wiliam’s book “Assessment for Learning.” Please register by Friday, August 7 at the following link: http://mypdc.olentangy.k12.oh.us/pdexpress/login.aspx. Olentangy Local Schools has received a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant. The grant covers the cost of developing a School Travel Plan (STP), which includes an engineering study to make getting to and from school safer. After the travel plan is developed, the district could qualify for additional grants to make the safety improvements identified in the plan. [Read more…]

Due to ongoing construction, Olentangy High School (OHS) will temporarily close to students, staff and the public beginning Wednesday, June 3 at 3 p.m. Principal Tom McDonnell and other staff members will be housed at Olentangy Orange High School (OOHS), 2840 E. Orange Road, Lewis Center, during the summer months. All phone calls to the OHS main line, (740) 657-4100, will be automatically forwarded to the temporary office.
