Gains 1,060 Students in One Year

For the seventh consecutive year, Olentangy Local Schools is Ohio’s fastest growing school district. According to the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), Olentangy Local Schools gained 1,060 students (8.15 percent) between the 2007-08 and the 2008-09 school years. Columbus City Schools is the second fastest growing school district for this same time period gaining 315 students.

All three Olentangy high schools will take part in the 2009 OhioHealth High School Football Series at Crew Stadium. Olentangy High School (OHS) and Olentangy Liberty High School (OLHS) will face off at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 2. Olentangy Orange High School (OOHS) will take on the New Albany Eagles at 9 p.m. that night. Both games will be televised via tape-delay by ONN-TV.

Olentangy Liberty High School (OLHS) has been named a 2009 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Only 314 schools from across the country and 19 from the state of Ohio received this honor for 2009.

Olentangy Local Schools is projecting a $12.7 million anticipated revenue loss by Fiscal Year (FY) 11 due to recent changes in the state funding system. The district will reduce expenditures to match the revenue loss and maintain the community commitment to not be on the ballot until 2011.

The 10th Annual Olentangy Education Foundation (OEF) Golf Outing will be held Monday, September 21st at The Lakes Golf & Country Club. Single golfers are not only welcome, but encouraged. Today, President Obama addressed school children across the nation. The Olentangy Local School District first learned of this message approximately two weeks ago and at that time chose to treat this address just like all other instructional materials such as textbooks and guest speakers. School districts have a limited amount of time with students to cover an expansive curriculum. At Olentangy, administrators review all resources for curriculum relevance to make sure we maximize our educational time with students.

On September 8th, President Obama will send a message via the White House Web site to all school children. Olentangy Local Schools will capture this video message and review it for its curriculum relevance as the district does with all resources such as textbooks. If the message directly relates to the state standards, then the district will develop curriculum-based talking points and communicate this to the appropriate grade levels/subject areas that teach those standards.
