Dozens of Olentangy teachers are volunteering to spend part of their summer learning how to make their classes available to more students.  The Olentangy Online Academy is providing teachers with an in-depth look at the best practices involved with online teaching and learning.  After the initial three-day course, teachers will begin creating their own online class.

Olentangy already offers two online technology classes for middle school students, and an online personal finance and post-secondary planning class for high school students.  The online option allows students to explore classes that might not otherwise fit into their schedules.

A group of students in the fourth and fifth grades at Arrowhead Elementary School (AES) conducted their own, personally written mock trials in the Delaware Municipal Courthouse this spring.  This opportunity allows students to have a first-hand experience of how the legal system can impact a person’s life.  It also supports the study of the Ohio legal system and the language arts curriculum benchmark of using persuasive strategies.  Special thanks to Judge Sunderman and Kathy Bauder at the Delaware Court Justice Center!

Representatives from Giant Eagle’s Apples For Students rewards program visited Oak Creek Elementary School (OCES) last week to present the school’s PTO with the rewards earned through its participation in the program.  The PTO received several items including an iPad, Flip video camera, playground balls, dictionaries, paperback books and a case of scientific calculators.
