During the regular Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening, Olentangy Local Schools purchased 17.5 acres of farmland property located between Olentangy Shanahan Middle School (OSMS) and Olentangy High School (OHS). Money from the March 2, 2004 bond issue will be used to pay for the $40,000 per acre purchase. Other aspects of that bond issue include the construction of Glen Oak Elementary School (GOES), Olentangy Meadows Elementary School (OMES), Liberty Tree Elementary School (LTES), Olentangy Hyatts Middle School, buses, technology and textbooks.

The land will be used for elementary school number 15. Construction for this project has not yet begun and no opening date has been set at this time. Money from the March 4, 2008 bond issue will be used to pay for the construction of this school. Other components of that bond issue include the construction of Freedom Trail Elementary School (FTES), which will open during the 2009-10 school year; Cheshire Elementary School (CES), opening during the 2010-11 school year; Olentangy Berkshire Middle School (OBMS), opening during the 2011-12 school year; the expansion of Olentangy High School (OHS), to be completed for the 2010-11 school year; a bus facility that will open next month; and, ongoing needs for buses, textbooks and technology.
