Five Olentangy schools have earned the 2010 SOAR Award for High Progress Schools from Battelle for Kids. This honor recognizes Olentangy High School (OHS), Olentangy Liberty High School (OLHS), Olentangy Orange High School (OOHS), Olentangy Shanahan Middle School (OSMS) and Johnnycake Corners Elementary School (JCES) for academic progress in multiple grade levels and subjects during the 2009-10 school year and places these schools among the top two percent of the 541 buildings participating in the SOAR program.

“I’m very proud of not only the students, but the teachers and staff members at each of these schools,” said Superintendent Wade Lucas, Ed.D. “This award shows they aren’t content with simply providing an excellent education; our students and staff members are dedicated to continuously improving the educational experience.”

Battelle’s SOAR program is one of the country’s largest value-added initiatives, helping ensure that all students are making at least one year’s worth of progress during each academic year. The program began in 2002 and, during the last eight years, has expanded to become a comprehensive school improvement collaborative, offering a wide array of benefits and services to Ohio school districts.
