Increases Instructional Time While Saving $100,000 Per Year
During the regular Board of Education meeting Tuesday night, Jeff Brown, executive director of elementary learning, announced the district’s plan to adjust the kindergarten schedule for the 2009-10 school year. Currently students follow a two and one-half day per week schedule that includes a half-day every Friday. Beginning in August, all kindergarten students will follow an all-day rotating Friday schedule that will increase instructional time by at least eight and one-half days. In addition, by eliminating the weekly mid-day Friday transportation run, the district will save approximately $100,000 in fuel and transportation costs each year.
“This transition meets the community and board’s charge to the administration to find opportunities to deliver top-quality educational programing for Olentangy students in efficient and effective method,” said Brown. “The best part of this program is that all kindergarten students will receive more instructional time to better facilitate maximum learning for every student.”
