Olentangy's Top News

Ten Olentangy schools earned high honors in the March edition of Columbus Monthly. The cover article for the magazine lists A+ schools that account for the top 19 percent of all schools in Central, Ohio based upon their analysis of Performance Index scores. The listed schools earned a Performance Index Score of 100 or higher on the 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 ODE report cards. The Olentangy schools earning this honor include:

  • Olentangy High School (OHS);
  • Olentangy Liberty High School (OLHS);
  • Olentangy Liberty Middle School (OLMS);
  • Olentangy Shanahan Middle School (OSMS);
  • Alum Creek Elementary School (ACES);
  • Indian Springs Elementary School (ISES);
  • Scioto Ridge Elementary School (SRES);
  • Tyler Run Elementary School (TRES);
  • Walnut Creek Elementary School (WCES); and,
  • Wyandot Run Elementary School (WRES).

In addition, the article ranks school districts by dividing the number of A+ schools by the total number of schools in the district. One note on Olentangy’s rating in the article, Columbus Monthly did not take into account Olentangy’s extreme growth or the four schools that opened during the 2006-07 and 2008-09 school years. These schools do not have enough data to meet the basic criteria for an A+ school and as such were not eligible to be mentioned in the article. However they were considered for the district calculation for the total number of schools during the 2007-08 school year. This honest mistake incorrectly resulted in Olentangy receiving a 55.5 percentage rating of A+ schools instead of the true rating of 71.4 percent. The magazine has already agreed to run a correction in an upcoming issue.

“This is certainly something to be proud of,” said Interim Superintendent Jeff Brown. “However at Olentangy Local Schools we hold ourselves to a higher standard. While this is a great acknowledgement of the work we have achieved so far, it is only one piece of the total picture we use in the evaluation of our progress and we will continue our work to meet the district’s mission to facilitate maximum learning for every student.”
