Olentangy Local Schools Food Service Department recently conducted a thorough review of all inventory items that contain peanut butter. This was done after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began recalling peanut butter products that are manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America.

“I am pleased to report that we have received confirmation from the Ohio Department of Education, Commodity Distribution Division and from Pierre Foods, Olentangy’s product manufacturer, that our bulk peanut butter, peanut butter bars and peanut butter pockets do not contain any recalled peanut butter,” said Pam Riley, food services supervisor. “Olentangy is suspending the sale of all other prepackaged products containing peanut butter or peanut paste until we can receive confirmation from those manufacturers that they do not contain the recalled product. Only a small portion of our peanut butter items fall into this category and once we receive the necessary confirmation, sale of these products will resume.”

“At Olentangy Local Schools we care about our students,” said Riley. “The Food Services Department prides itself on offering healthy and safe food choices to all of our students and will continue to offer the high level of service our students and parents have come to expect.” If parents have additional questions regarding the peanut butter recall or the Food Services Department, they should contact the district at (740) 657-4053.
