Two Olentangy students placed first in their categories in the Central Ohio Writing Competition. A Glen Oak Elementary School (GOES) student, won the fourth-grade non-fiction category with his piece entitled “Parasailing.” An Olentangy Hyatts Middle School (OHMS) student, earned first place in the eighth-grade non-fiction category for her piece entitled “Common Survival – Earthquake in Haiti.” Another OHMS student was the runner-up in the sixth-grade non-fiction category for her piece entitled “Anne Frank.”
Students in grades four through eight were invited to submit writing samples in the categories of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. A total of 75 students, 11 of them from Olentangy, were selected as finalists. Of those 75 finalists, 15 were selected as winners.
