The Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) recently named Olentangy Treasurer Rebecca Jenkins the Outstanding Treasurer/CFO of the Year and Olentangy Food Service Supervisor Pam Riley the Outstanding Food & Nutrition Director of the Year.
The OASBO awards were created 24 years ago to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding public school business officials. Award nominees are judged on three criteria: service to school system, service to the profession and service to the community. In addition to the award, Jenkins and Riley will each select an Olentangy graduating senior who will receive a $500 scholarship sponsored by American Fidelity Assurance Company.
Jenkins started her career with Olentangy as assistant treasurer in 2004 and became treasurer in 2006. Olentangy has earned the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) during each of Jenkins’ five years with the district. This honor indicates that an impartial panel deemed the document to demonstrate a spirit of full disclosure. During Jenkins’ tenure, Standard & Poor’s has also upgraded the district’s credit rating to “AA+,” the second-highest rating possible. She served as the President of OASBO during the 2008-09 school year and is actively involved with the Olentangy Education Foundation.
Riley became the supervisor of Olentangy’s Food Service Department in 1997 after several years of experience in food service for the healthcare industry, business and schools. The Olentangy Food Service Department participates in the National School Lunch Program and the Enhanced Food-Based Menu Planning Approach. Under Riley’s 12 years of guidance, the program has seamlessly expanded from four buildings to 20, implemented a debit card payment system and initiated breakfast programs in seven schools. All eligible schools have earned the Delaware General Health District Clean Restaurant Award since the inception of that honor. Riley also serves as a clinical instructor in the School of Allied Medical Professions at The Ohio State University and has earned the Clinical Education Excellence Award from OSU for the past three years.
