All three Olentangy high schools were ranked among the top 500 high schools in the nation according to The Washington Post’s High School Challenge Index. This is the sixth consecutive year that Olentangy Liberty High School (OLHS) and Olentangy High School (OHS) have made the list; Olentangy Orange High School (OOHS) made the list in its first year of eligibility.
The Challenge Index looks at the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other college-level tests given by a school and divides that figure by the number of graduates. The research also provides each school with an Equity and Excellence (E&E) score, which indicates the percentage of seniors who received a passing mark on the exams. This figure is significant because Olentangy not only wants students to have access to rigorous work, but also to be able to achieve on the exams.
Olentangy Liberty High School ranks 318th out of the 1900 schools included on the list. OLHS has a Challenge Index score of 2.946, which is up 0.32 from last year. OLHS also increased its E&E percentage by 10 points to 58 percent.
Olentangy High School ranks 383rd. Its Challenge Index score is 2.722, which is up 0.89 from last year. OHS also increased its E&E percentage by more than 20 points to 51.5 percent.
Olentangy Orange High School ranks 495th. Its Challenge Index score is 2.502, and its E&E is 44.4 percent.
“We are extremely proud of all three of our high schools,” said Superintendent Wade Lucas, Ed.D. “Each of these buildings is ranked among the top 20 high schools in the state, so it’s no surprise that they are among the best in the nation as well. This is a credit to the efforts of our excellent staff and the supportive families our students have at home.”
