To: All Olentangy Parents
From: Wade Lucas, Ed.D., superintendent
Recently a great deal of attention both around the world and in our state has focused on H1N1 or more commonly known as Swine Influenza. While no suspected, probable or confirmed cases of this disease have been found in Olentangy Local Schools at this time, I want to assure parents that the district is aware of this situation and is doing everything we can to help keep Olentangy students healthy.
According to the Delaware General Health District, Swine Influenza is a new strain of influenza virus of swine origin. Symptoms may include fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Persons with these symptoms should be seen by a doctor and possibly tested, under guidelines developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Students and their families may protect themselves against Swine Flu and other diseases by:
- washing your hand frequently with warm water and soap;
- covering your coughs and sneezes with your sleeve or a tissue; and,
- staying home from work or school if you are feeling sick.
Olentangy Local Schools encourages these behaviors amongst students on a regular basis and will continue to stress these basic hygiene guidelines. In addition all schools are cleaned on a daily basis by our dedicated custodial staff. Should you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the district at (740) 657-4050.
