District pouring through hundreds of online comments
Olentangy has postponed the final decision on redistricting so that the district can diligently review the more than 400 comments submitted by community members through an online survey.
Olentangy began the redistricting process this fall in anticipation of opening two new elementary schools and one new middle school during the course of the next three school years. Representatives from the Operations, Business and Transportation departments developed an initial proposal with the help of DeJong and Associates, a firm that uses the latest technologies and computer programs to create enrollment projections and facilities plans. The initial proposal was shared with 36 community members in focus groups. Their comments and suggestions were used to refine the proposal, which was then posted online for public comment.
The district is now reviewing each of the comments received through the online survey to see if additional improvements can be made to the proposed redistricting plan. If any changes are made, the plan will be posted online again for another round of public comment before a final decision is made in January or February 2009.
