Six Olentangy third-grade students earned perfect scores on the fall 2009 Ohio Achievement Test in reading. Only 0.2 percent of the 128,462 students in the state who took this test earned a perfect score.

“This is a great achievement for these students,” said Jeff Brown, executive director of elementary learning. “But we also should recognize the importance of the instruction they receive from their teachers and the support they receive from their families. This is a perfect example of everyone working together to help students meet their potential.”

The OAT is a state-standards based assessment for students in grades three through eight. The OAT covers multiple subject areas and accounts for several of the standards included in the Ohio Department of Education’s local report card that is released each August. While most of the Ohio Achievement Tests are administered in the spring, the third-grade reading test is administered in both the fall and the spring.
