Olentangy Hyatts Middle School (OHMS) student Brady J. recently completed a major upgrade to the OHMS garden space. Brady undertook the renovation as his Eagle Scout project and with the help of numerous donors, including the Jarret Feucht Memorial Fund. During the course of several months, Brady covered the area in landscape fabric, laid two levels of mulch, planted four apple trees, built four picnic tables and four park benches, built a compost bin and installed an entryway garden that dedicates the space to the memory of Jarret Feucht, an Olentangy student who died in a car accident in 2007 and was known for his generous nature and love of the outdoors, music and art.
- Before the project the OHMS garden was just a series of raised beds.
- In one of the first phases of the project, landscape fabric was installed over the grassy areas.
- Two layers of mulch were added to the area, covering the landscape fabric.
- Brady prepares to plant one of four new apple trees.
- Brady gets a little help setting one of his four newly built picnic tables in place.
- The new compost bin is installed.
- OHMS students enjoy the improved space during an end-of-the-year celebration.
