History will come alive before the eyes of hundreds of Olentangy students as they host an important event for World War II veterans on Friday, September 12. The event is part of the 2008 reunion of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, a national organization with more than 7,600 members.
Approximately 100 reunion attendees will spend the day at Olentangy Orange High School (OOHS), enjoying a program in their honor and meeting with students from both OOHS and Olentangy Orange Middle School (OOMS).
The Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge selected Olentangy schools for this event after learning of the success of “Living History Day,” an annual event for local veterans organized each year by OOMS teacher Nancy Poliseno and her eighth-grade students.
Through this event, students will engage in several communication learning targets. In addition, students will learn valuable social studies curriculum lessons such as understanding civic responsibilities and the origins of the rights Americans enjoy today by interacting with veterans.
