Three Olentangy third-grade students earned perfect scores on the fall 2008 Ohio Achievement Test (OAT) in reading. Only .07 percent of students in the state who took this test earned a perfect score.
The OAT is a state-standards based assessment for students in grades three through eight. Reading and mathematics are included in all grade levels while other subjects such as writing, science and social studies are included only at certain grade levels. For instance, writing is included in grades four and seven, but not in grades three, five, six or eight. The third-grade reading test is the only OAT that is administered in both the fall and the spring. OAT accounts for 18 of the 30 standards included in the Ohio Department of Education’s local report card that is released each year in August.
