OOHS Girls’ Golf

On Tuesday, May 15, there will be a meeting for all girls interested in trying out for the Orange High School girls’ golf team. The meeting will be held in the lobby during 8th grade advisory. If you have questions, please contact John Betz at john_betz@olentangy.k12.oh.us

Gymnastics Meeting

On Wednesday, May 16, there will be a meeting for all 6th and 7th grade girls interested in joining Olentangy’s middle school club gymnastics team. No experience necessary! The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Shanahan Middle School library, 814 Shanahan Road. The meeting is for girls and their parents. Girl Talk

Orange Middle School is hosting an event for 6th and 7th grade girls and their mothers (or other important female role model) called Girl Talk. It will be held on Sunday, May 20 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.  There will be games, favors, snacks, crafts and more. There is no fee to participate, but registration is required. For a form, have your child see Miss Dewey or e-mail: amanda_dewey@olentangy.k12.oh.us.

Cheerleading tryouts for Orange Middle School will be held May 14 through May 17. Clinics will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 3:15 until 5:00. The students trying out for cheerleading will learn a dance, cheer and two sideline chants. The tumbling portion of tryouts will be held on Wednesday, May 16, and the final tryout will be held on Thursday May 17. A parent meeting will be held May 9 at 7:00 p.m.  

In order to participate in clinics and tryouts, students must turn in an Emergency Medical Authorization form and a completed OHSAA Preparticipation Physical Evaluation.  Students may check with Mrs. Rambo in the school office to see if they have a current physical form on file from a previous sport.  Turn in all required paperword to Coach Gibson or Coach Keeler.  Click the links below to access each of the required forms.

The OOHS boys’ cross country team will hold an informational meeting on May 30, at 3:15 p.m. in Room 437 at Orange Middle School. Coach Toler will be sharing information that includes the summer training schedule, fall schedule, meet schedule, team policies, etc. Students need to attend the meeting if they are interested in joining the 2012 team. Students unable to attend the meeting must contact Coach Toler to obtain the information.

If you are planning to move within or out of the district over the summer, please contact the school office for the necessary paperwork and information.

Trip date:  October 22 – 26, 2012

Washington, D.C. parent chaperone applications are now available for the upcoming October 22-26, 2012 trip. Please return the completed PDF application or hard copy to Brent Wise by June 1. You may complete the form and return it via email (recommended) or bring a hard copy to the main office at OOMS. Gymnastics Camp

It is not too late to sign up for gymnastics camps sponsored the Olentangy gymnastics teams.  Registrations received prior to June 10 will receive a discount.  Camp dates are:  June 25-29, July 16-20, and August 13-17.  Camps run from 9:00 a.m. – noon at Central Ohio Gymnastics in Delaware.  Each camp is $100.  Discounts are available for additional siblings and multiple camps.  For more information, contact Jen Hedrick at 614-657-1082 or cog@columbus.rr.com.  The registration form is available at:  2012 Olentangy Summer Camps.  Proceeds benefit the booster programs.

OOMS Performing Arts

It is hard to believe that our Music in the Parks competition at Kings Island is only a couple of weeks away!  Here are some important reminders for the next three weeks:

Friday, April 27 (7th and 8th grade only)

Student meeting, rehearsal, and lock-in.  Students will receive their Kings Island schedule and forms.  They will also be choosing their chaperone groups.  Students need to arrive at OOMS by 6:00 p.m. for the trip meeting (dinner will be served). Parents will pick up students at 11:00 p.m., 2:00 a.m., or on Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m.  The pick-up time should have been noted on the permission form.  Due to the concern about the health of our students, energy drinks – Monster, Amp, Red Bull, 5-Hour Energy, Rockstar, etc.) – are NOT permitted at the lock-in.

We are still in need of more chaperons from 3:30 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. Please sign up on Charms or contact a director if you are available.

May 6 – Band Concert (7th & 8th grade and jazz band only)

The 7th and 8th grade bands plus the jazz band will perform at OOMS on Sunday, May 6.  The 7th and 8th grade bands will be performing their competition songs and the jazz band will be playing traditional jazz plus some jazzy rock tunes. Students should be in the music room by 2:30 p.m.  Doors will open at 2:00 p.m. Students are to wear their concert band attire: blue music polo shirt, black pants (or long black skirt), and black dress shoes.

May 8 – Choir Concert

The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choirs will be performing at OOMS on Tuesday, May 8. This concert will feature the 7th and 8th grade students as they prepare for the King’s Island competition. Students are to wear their concert attire:  blue music polo shirt, black pants, and black dress shoes. Students need to report to the OOMS gym: 7th and 8th grade students should arrive by at 6:20 p.m., and 6th grade students should arrive by 6:40 p.m. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the OOMS gym.

May 12 – Music in the Parks/Kings Island Trip (7th and 8th grade only)

The 7th and 8th grade band, choir, and orchestra students need to arrive at OOMS on Saturday, May 12th at 6:00 a.m.  Students are to wear their concert attire:  blue music blue music polo shirt, black pants, black socks and black shoes…no flip flops. Make sure they have everything including instrument, music, breakfast eaten, packed lunch, dinner money, clothes for the park,etc.  The estimated return time to OOMS is midnight.  For more information, please refer to the Kings Island schedule packet which will be going home on Friday, April 27.

Chaperons – Only parents who have their BCI/FBI background check on file with the school will be able to chaperone.  Other parents, family members and friends of the family may go with us to see the performances and attend the park but they must:  drive themselves and never chaperone/monitor/be alone with unrelated students.
