Olentangy Policy Information
Olentangy's policies are based upon the "Carver Approach." The Carver Approach means that the board will reserve for itself the primary responsibility of setting policy. The board will center its governance book on the “ends,” or results that they want the district to accomplish and they will describe the specifics of their working relationship with the superintendent or treasurer. The ends will primarily be what is described in the district’s Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). This is the primary document that the board will use and refer to as the core of its governance.
The day-to-day operations of the district would be the responsibility of the administration and are the responsibility of the superintendent and treasurer. The expectation is that the leaders of the district will put into place procedures and practices that will make it possible for the district to achieve its goals.
A major part of the new policy books and governance is that it reduces the size of the school board’s policy manual and eliminates repetition of policies in many different places. So, for example, when the student handbooks or negotiated agreements are approved, those each become the only board policy statement on those issues.
