Olentangy Earns Highest Rating of "Excellent with Distinction" on ODE Report Card

Olentangy Local Schools earned the state's highest rating possible of "Excellent with Distinction" on the 2007-08 local report card. This is the latest category to be added to the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) report card and only 12 percent of Ohio school districts are expected to achieve this honor. This is the sixth time in the past seven years that Olentangy has earned at least an Excellent rating. Read the full story

Testing Information

Olentangy students annually participate in district and statewide testing. This information helps us to assess the overall achievement of our students, schools and the rigor of our curriculum. The most important component of our assessment program is the daily assessment by our teachers, which provides authentic and extensive information about the student’s current performance. Standardized tests provide a yearly “check-up” or opportunity to take a snapshot of a student’s performance as compared with the achievement levels of students across the district, state and nation. Classroom achievement and district/statewide test data provide different yet valuable information to meet the needs of every student and improve our curriculum.

The TerraNova is a national norm-referenced test that is given at grades 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. We pair the TerraNova with the InView at grades 2, 3, and 7 which is a test of general school ability and is used to meet the state requirement for gifted screening.

State and national tests are secure documents; therefore students must understand the importance of test security and confidentiality. Please review the importance of confidentiality with your child prior to testing. The most common test security violation is students discussing items on the test outside of the classroom. Test security violations can result in invalid test scores and other consequences as outlined in the student handbook.

Please note the days your student will be participating in standardized testing on the second page of the 2008-09 Testing Letter. Our department reviews our testing regimen annually, therefore you may notice a change in the tests we are giving our students. To help your child put testing in perspective, remind them that this “yearly check-up” highlights their overall strengths and identifies the areas where they could improve. Dates listed on the back of this letter include make-up testing. Students are not tested every day within the test window.

If you have questions about district testing, please feel free to contact your child’s building principal, guidance counselor, classroom teacher or me. Thank you for your continued support and partnership, as we work together to maximize learning for every student.

Sincerely,
Jaclyn Roscoe, District Test Coordinator
