Food Services Department
Olentangy's food service program is designed to provide meals that are nutritious, tasty, and appealing to students and staff in a safe, sanitary and cost-effective manner. All of Olentangy’s meals are designed to meet one-third of a student’s daily caloric needs.
Olentangy participates in the National School Lunch Program at all grade levels and school lunches meet the required nutrition standards. In addition, the district participates in the Enhanced Food-Based Menu Planning Approach. This approach is designed to increase calories from low-fat food sources in order to meet the Dietary Guidelines. The five food components are retained, but the component qualities for the weekly servings of vegetables, fruits and grains/breads are increased.
Olentangy's food service program has received numerous honors and distinctions.
Some highlights of the Food Service Department include:
- All eligible cafeterias received the 2006-07 Clean Restaurant Award from the Delaware General Heath District.
- All Olentangy cafeterias routinely receive a score of 95 percent or better on semi-annual inspections by the health district.
- All employees attend an annual mandatory in-service in which various food safety and sanitation topics are covered.
