Olentangy’s Overflow Plan
Olentangy’s staff works hard to continuously monitor, manage and predict the growth in student enrollment. At times, this does mean that a school building is no longer able to accept additional students. Should this occur it may become necessary for the district to enroll incoming students to another school within Olentangy.
Parents who enroll a new student at Olentangy will be asked to provide certain basic information in the event of an overflow situation. This information would be used as a way to assign students to a school. The criteria and process are referenced below in the event of this occurrence. The collection of this information does not mean that an overflow situation is imminent; rather, it is our way of planning ahead for what could be possible. If an overflow plan becomes necessary, parents will be notified as quickly as possible regarding the plan.
Students with PIN numbers will be considered for attendance in their home building based on the following criteria. These criteria are listed in order. (PIN numbers may be obtained by contacting the New Student Welcome Center.):
- those students with siblings attending the home building for the enrolling school year;
- students that currently reside within a non-transportation area as determined by the district’s Transportation Eligibility Policy; and,
- students who have lived within the district for at least two years
If at any point spaces remain, a lottery will be held for the students involved. For example, if the first bulleted criteria is met but the number of students in the second bulleted criteria exceeds the number of spaces available, then a lottery for the remaining spaces will be held with these students.
